Let's Go Back to the Bible

The many few — an interesting perspective

Many a sermon has been preached in which the question was asked, “Are you among the few or among the many?” (based upon Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:13-14).  “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”  The answer every person needs to give is, “I am among the few!

But, in the very next chapter, only 27 verses later, Jesus spoke of those who, due to “such great faith,” would “sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 8:12).  In this verse, Jesus does not say that it will be “few” who do this, but “many will come from east and west” to be in the kingdom of heaven.

Question:  Are you among the many faithful who will inhabit eternal bliss, representing but a few of humanity of all time?  Can you say, “I am among the many few”?
