Let's Go Back to the Bible

He said it, so I did it

The man had been blind from birth (John 9:1). Don’t you know that he longed to see with his entire being! Jesus came and spit on the ground, “made clay with the saliva” and “anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay” (9:6). Can you imagine being the blind man and having someone else do that to you? Then, Jesus said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (9:7).

“Excuse me. How in the world is dirt, spit and pool water going to make any difference? This makes no sense. Just give me a towel, let me wipe this off my face and go away.” Can you picture someone thinking and even saying that in this situation? Perhaps many would.

The text says, “So he went and washed” (9:7). When the man retold the story, he said, “So I went and washed” (9:11). Look at the word “so.” Jesus said it, “SO” I did it. It didn’t matter what “it” was! He said it—I did it! You know the result: “he came back seeing” (9:7, 11). Do we have the same faith, trust and submission? If so, you know what the result will be!
