Let's Go Back to the Bible

God’s secret hiding place

In Psalm 31, David called upon God to protect him from his enemies.  His enemies “secretly laid” a net to catch him (31:4); slandered, taken “counsel together against” him and schemed “to take away” his life” (31:13); persecuted him (31:15); spoke lies and “insolent things proudly and contemptuously against” him (31:18).  David pleaded with God to listen (31:2), deliver (31:1-2, 15), lead and guide (31:3), pull him out (31:4), have mercy (31:9), save him (31:16), etc.

There are so many great parts to this psalm and so many wonderful thoughts that exude from David’s words.  It is hard to choose a favorite, but verses 19-20 are extraordinary.  “Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You…!  You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.”  Did you know that God has a “secret place” in His presence to hide those who fear Him and trust Him?  Did you know that He has a pavilion (a shelter) just for His faithful?  Read the entire psalm.  How great is God’s goodness!
