Let's Go Back to the Bible

Your purpose, even from your mother’s womb

We often quote Jeremiah 1:5 to prove that there is life in the womb. But have you considered the rest of the verse? God looked at the life in the womb, and even before his birth, God “ordained” Jeremiah to be “a prophet to the nations.” Consider a similar statement made by the prophet Isaiah (Isa. 49:1). The apostle Paul said that “God…separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles…” (Gal. 1:15-16). All of these passages emphasize life in the womb (before birth), but they also emphasize a desire of God for that life to grow to be used by and for Him.

While there may have been some factors in place with Jeremiah, Isaiah and Paul in the womb that are a bit different than with us today, consider the fact that God still has the same desire for every baby, child, teen and adult today—to be used by God and to be used for God! We have been “created…formed…yes…made” for His “glory” (Isa. 43:7). Simple as that!
