Let's Go Back to the Bible

When I put the money in the basket, is that worship?

Should giving in our assemblies on the first day of the week really be considered an avenue of worship?  Stop and think about it, then study what the Bible says about it.  Is it possible that bringing money before the Lord and giving it freely and willingly could be considered “worshiping God”?  It is obvious from 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 that this was a command of the Lord to be done by the church every first day of the week.  But, is it a “worshiping act” or is it just a formality?

For sake of brevity, consider just this one passage from the Old Testament.  Worshipers, even back then, were instructed to take the first portions of what they had, “put it in a basket…set it down before the altar of the Lord…and say before the Lord your God…‘Behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land which you, O Lord, have given me.’  Then you shall set it before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God.  So you shall rejoice…” (Deut. 26:1-11).

Cheerfully returning to God on the Lord’s Day His bountiful blessings to us is worship!
