Let's Go Back to the Bible

What does it mean to have faith in Jesus?

Lots of different ideas exist today as to what faith in Jesus means.  Could it possibly mean, as some assert, to merely put mental assent to the deity of Jesus?  Mental assent is simply agreeing intellectually in your head that the evidence presented is historically and factually accurate.  Mental assent can lead to faith but it certainly is not faith.  Faith is created in one’s heart and moves one to soul-saving obedience.  Following a few chapters that emphasize true faith, consider carefully these words from Romans 6:17 – “You obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.”  Faith in the teaching led to soul-delivering obedience.

See if this acrostic doesn’t help define and direct your faith:

F – Forsaking

A – All

I – I

T – Trust

H – Him.
