Let's Go Back to the Bible

What a “way” to go!

The word “way” is used five times in Proverbs 15.  Twice it is used to speak of “the way” that leads away from the Lord.  “The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord…The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns” (15:9, 19).  Three times (including verse 10) it is used to speak of “the way” that leads to the Lord.  Look at verses 19 and 24.

“The way of the upright is a highway” (15:19).  The righteous have chosen the plain path, the highway of holiness.  The lazy (in the first part of the verse) find every excuse (i.e., every little thorn) to keep them from moving, but the upright find the way, go the way and stay on the way.

“The way of life winds upward for the wise, that he may turn away from hell below” (15:24).  This verse makes me think of Elijah going “up by a whirlwind into heaven” (2 Kings 2:11).  It also reminds me of Colossians 3:1-2, “…Seek those things which are above…Set your mind on things above…”  There’s a way winding upward away from hell.  Are you on it?
