Let's Go Back to the Bible

The ultimate Keeper of the kept!

Peter was thrown into prison in Acts 12, and Scripture says that he was “kept in prison” (12:5). Paul and Silas were cast into prison in Acts 16, and the jailor was charged to “keep them safely” (16:23). When you think about a prison and think about prisoners being kept, there is a certain confinement and even protection that likely comes to mind. Jesus used the same word, when praying to the Father in John 17, to describe how He had “kept” His disciples and His appealed to the Father to also “keep” them. Again, a certain “custody” and protection comes to mind.

The Lord calls upon all of His children to “keep His commandments,” to “keep His words,” and at the end of the book of Jude, to “keep…in the love of God” (Jude  24). When we do that, His promise is so spectacular! He turns right around and uses that same word to tell us that, not only will we be “beloved in God the Father” (Jude 1), but we will also be “kept for Jesus Christ”! Isn’t that cool! When we keep, He keeps! Are you kept? Is He your Keeper?
