Let's Go Back to the Bible

The Lord of the Sabbath is the Lord of everything!

Can you imagine the audacity of the Pharisees to continually question Jesus to His face about His doctrine and practices?  Wow!  We see one of those occasions in Mark 2, when “His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain.”  The Pharisees, in their typical fashion, said, “Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” (2:23-24).  As a part of His response, Jesus affirmed, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.  Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath” (2:27-28).  Who made the Sabbath?  The Lord did.  Therefore, who had authority over that which He made?  The Lord did.  Think about the application.

Jesus, stating that He was the Lord of the Sabbath, removed the question from the realm of argument and placed it within the realm of authority.  If Jesus could do that for that one topic (the Sabbath), over which He had authority, could we not also say that the Son of Man is the Lord of the First Day of the Week, Lord of the Church, Lord of Worship, Lord of Baptism, etc.?  As such, why would anyone audaciously argue against anything that Jesus teaches?
