Let's Go Back to the Bible

The Fool starring as “Scoffer”!

You know how an actor has his legal name (given by his parents), his public name (sometimes a different name given by his agent or publicist), and then his screen name (given by whatever film he is working on at the time)?  Did you know that God also assigns names?

On January 16, 2011, Ricky Dene Gervais hosted the 2011 Golden Globe Awards.  He made several edgy jokes with “a corrosive tone” throughout the evening.  Then, in his parting words as the cameras panned away, to mimic what many of the actors and actresses had done in thanking everyone, Gervais vomited this line, “Thank you to God for making me an atheist!”

The God, whom he mocked, proclaimed, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psa. 14:1).  The fool was starring that night on stage!  Who was he playing?  “A proud and haughty man – ‘Scoffer’ is his name; He acts with arrogant pride” (Prov. 21:24).  Eternity is going to be a “rude awakening” for many fools named “Scoffer”!  God help me not to be one of them!
