Let's Go Back to the Bible

“That makes me a little better than that person!”

“I’m older than that person, which makes me a little better than him.”  “I make more money than that person, which makes me a little better than her.”  “I went further with my education than that person, which makes me a little better than him.”  “I was actually born in this country, which makes me a little better than her.”  “I am taller (or skinnier) than that person, which makes me a little better than him.”  “I have nicer clothes than that person, which makes me a little better than her.”  “I’ve been working with this company longer than that person, which makes me a little better than him.”  “I’ve been in this church longer than that person, which makes me a little better than her.”  “I know more about the Bible than that person, which makes me a little better than him.”  “I’m one of the leaders of this church, which makes me a little better than her.”

Oh, we can sure elevate ourselves above others with great ease, can’t we?  How does that jive with Philippians 2:3, “In lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself”?  A faithful child of God has no place to make any evaluations like those above!  Think about it.
