Let's Go Back to the Bible

Set your face

There is an interesting expression used in Luke 9 regarding Jesus traveling to Jerusalem.  Luke 9:51 tells us that “the time had come for Him to be received up”—the time of His passion and suffering was nigh.  Jesus was in Galilee, so He had to make His way to Jerusalem.  The rest of verse 51 tells us “that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.”  He steadfastly set His face.  You can see the direction (one goes in the direction of his face); you can see the determination (He set His face steadfastly).  He traveled through Samaria, but “they did not receive him, because his face was as though he were going to Jerusalem” (v. 53, ASV).  Interesting the emphasis on His face here.  He was not in Jerusalem yet, but it was obvious from His face that He was going there and was determined/set to arrive there.

What have you set your face to do?  Where have you set your face to go?  How steadfastly have you set your face for your journey?  Is it obvious to others where you are headed?  Brethren, let us steadfastly set our faces on heaven! Read Colossians 3:1-4.
