Let's Go Back to the Bible

New Year’s Resolutions

Well, it’s that time of year when folks begin making those “New Year’s Resolutions.”  I’m not one who puts a lot of emphasis on them (nothing against those who do), for (1) I believe if something is worth doing it’s worth doing any time during the year, and (2) I’ve seen too many resolutions start on January 1st and gradually fade and vanish by February 1st.

That being said, I know that two of the top resolutions each year center on better money management and improved physical fitness.  As both of those focus on the gain/profit to be achieved, think about these words from 1 Timothy 4:8 – “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things…”  God did not say that it is wrong to put an emphasis on bodily exercise and physical fitness (there is “profit”).  But, God did say that there is something that is “profitable for all things”…something that has a promise in the life that is to come.

As you plan for the new year, where will your emphasis be?  On increasing godliness?
