Let's Go Back to the Bible

“I love sin”

It makes me sick just to write it.  I saw a black bumper sticker the other day with white lettering that simply said, “I love sin.”  I had a few things I wanted to ask the driver but didn’t get the chance.  It’s not that the concept of the world loving sin is new or unique; the Bible speaks about man serving his lusts/desires and being enslaved to sin.  And, it’s not the concept of the world verbalizing their disdain for godliness and reveling in sinful pleasures that’s new or unique; the Bible speaks about the unrighteous who think it’s strange that we don’t run with them in sin.

However, it seems that we’ve slumped even further into depravation when we’re bold enough to put a sticker on our car or a button on our shirt that says, “I love sin.”  The moral decay is scary!

The second beatitude comes to mind — “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matt. 5:4).  Do we truly mourn over sin?  James said, “Lament and mourn and weep!  Let your laughter [about sin] be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom” (4:9).  Think about it!
