It is important for us to remember that most of our Bible heroes were merely ordinary men (like us) who did extraordinary things because the Almighty God was working on their behalf. And, rightfully so, most of the Bible heroes recognized that fact.
When David courageously went to battle against Goliath, the giant “disdained him…‘Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?’” David’s response took the focus off of him and placed it where it needed to be – “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts…This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand…that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands” (1 Sam. 17:45-47).
It was not David who deserved credit but God! God’s heroes put their trust fully in Him!
