Let's Go Back to the Bible

God’s laws and God’s love are inseparable

The word “law” seems to be offensive to some folks, especially when used in regard to one’s responsibility toward God.  There are some who approach the Bible with the notion that the Old Testament was a system of “law” (do’s & don’ts), but the New Testament is a system of “love,” without the strong emphasis on laws of do’s and don’ts.

Disastrous consequences await men when they try to sever love from law or law from love.  God doesn’t work that way.  Galatians 6:2 teaches, “Bear one another’s burdens.”  Would you say that is an act of love?  Notice the rest of the verse – “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”  An act of love is a fulfillment of the law of Christ.  God does not separate the two.  God’s law is a “law of faith” (Rom. 3:27), a “law of liberty” (Jas. 1:25) and a law that is fulfilled by loving your neighbor (Jas. 2:8).

God loves you!  He loves you so much that He gave you laws to know how to please Him!
