A most interesting affirmation is made in 2 Corinthians 11:4. The church of Christ in Corinth was being infiltrated by false teachers and even “false apostles,” who were likely Jews (cf. 11:22) trying to turn these Christians away from their allegiance to Christ Jesus. Now, notice how they are described in verse 4: “For if he who comes preaches another Jesus…”
These false teachers were preaching “another Jesus.” What does that mean? Were they preaching about a Jesus from Mesopotamia instead of the Jesus of Nazareth? Was there another Jesus claiming to be the Savior? No. But, they were preaching a different message. Verse 4 says that they were preaching “a different gospel.” (Read also Galatians 1:6-9.)
Think about this. If I preach a different message than the one of the New Testament, then I am preaching another Jesus. It is not enough just to preach about Jesus; we must faithfully preach His message, His words, His doctrine, His gospel (cf. John 12:48; 2 John 9-11). Not ours!
