Let's Go Back to the Bible

How long did it take Jesus to walk there?

One of the most well-known stories in all of the Bible is when Jesus walked on the water. We know that Jesus’ disciples were three or four miles out into the midst of the Sea and were being tossed by the waves (Matt. 14:25; John 6:19). We know that while they were in the middle of the sea that Jesus “saw them straining at rowing” (Mark 6:48). We know that His disciples were fearful when they first saw Him walking on the water toward them.

Now, here’s something we don’t know — how long did it take Jesus to walk to them? How long did it take Jesus to come down from the mountain He had ascended (Matt. 14:23) and walk at least three to four miles across rough seas driven by the strong winds to arrive at the boat at the precise moment that they needed Him? Is it possible that in their hour of need that Jesus was able to be there immediately? It is interesting to note in this one account that the word “immediately” is used three times with reference to the actions of Jesus.

How long does it take Jesus to respond in your hour of need? How about immediately!
