Let's Go Back to the Bible

It’s just stuff!

Has someone ever broken into your house or car and stolen your valuables? When it was all over, did you say in relief, “It’s just stuff”? Have you ever received a phone call from a family member or friend who was in a car accident and you were just thankful that he/she was ok? Did you say in relief (about the car), “It’s just stuff”? Have you ever packed up every one of your belongings into boxes, loaded them into a truck and then watched (or rode) as the truck pulled out of the driveway to drive to your new home? Did you think, as you pondered your material possessions all encased in cardboard, “It’s just stuff”?

How important for us to be reminded, especially in this materialistic world in which we live, that “we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (1 Tim. 6:7). The only “thing” with which we entered this world is our immortal soul, and the only “thing” which we will take with us from this world is our immortal soul (Matt. 10:28; 16:26; Jas. 2:26). Every other “thing,” no matter how valuable or special or sentimental, is just stuff!
