Read these verses from Psalm 47 and 1 Samuel 8. How glorious are the words of the psalmist! How wretched are the words of the people!
“For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth…God has gone up with a shout, The Lord with the sound of a trumpet…For God is the King of all the earth…God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne…He is greatly exalted” (Psalm 47).
How tragic to read the demands of God’s people in 1 Samuel 8 – “Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations” (v. 5). Samuel later told the people, “You said to me, ‘No, but a king shall reign over us,’ when the Lord your God was your king” (1 Sam. 12:12).
They had a King but apparently He wasn’t good enough. Let us exalt the Lord to the throne of our lives and never look for any other to reign over us!
