Let's Go Back to the Bible

God gives you more so that you can do more

Christians are reminded in the New Testament that “whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Gal. 6:7; cf. 2 Cor. 9:6).  In lessons today about the Christian’s responsibility to give, that principle is often included, with the emphasis usually being placed on the need for “sowing.”  But, when it comes to the “reaping,” what do you do (or will you do) with what you reap?  Or, maybe more pertinent, what would God have you do?  Why does God let you reap bountifully?

One of the greatest verses in the New Testament is in 2 Corinthians 9:8.  To the cheerful giver, God promises, “God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance…”  Oh, what an incredible thought—to always abound in all that we need!  But the verse does not stop with having “an abundance.”  There are four more words that state God’s purpose in blessing us richly.  “That you…may have an abundance for every good work.”  God blesses us more and more, so that we might have more and more to use for Him in our Christian works.  Using God’s blessings for His good!
