The early Christians faced challenges to their faith that we can read about but cannot fully imagine the extent thereof. We obviously think about them being killed for their faith in Christ, but perhaps even worse is the torture the experienced through the vile persecutions of their families, their livelihood, their property and their rights. To reassure, refocus and rejuvenate these Christians (who were being told that “Rome Reigns!”), they were told of a vision in heaven of a great multitude around the throne of God shouting, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” (Rev. 19:6). We would do well ourselves today to remember that!
It is not the President of the United States, the President of China or the King of England who reigns! It is not the Democratic Party or the Republican Party reigns! It is not CNN, Fox News or MSNBC that reigns! It is not your 401(k), your home value or the cost of gas that reigns!
Too often we put other things on the throne of our hearts and lives! Let us remember and be glad that “the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!”
