Let's Go Back to the Bible

Even before the baby has form–there’s life!

Writers of Scripture often reflected on their relationship with God “from their mother’s womb.”  “You are He who took Me out of the womb” (Psa. 22:9-10; cf. 71:6; Gal. 1:15).

Even from within the womb (before one was “out of the womb”), there is recognition of a life and relationship with God.  “From My mother’s womb You have been My God” (Psa. 22:10).  “The Lord has called Me from the womb…He has made mention of My name…Who formed Me from the womb…” (Isa. 49:1, 5).  “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.  I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…” (Psa. 139:13-14).

I realize some of these are Messianic and some pertain specifically to the writer/prophet, but what does it affirm in truth and application?  Now consider what Jeremiah said, and concentrate on the first word, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you…” (Jer. 1:5).  Life, in God’s eyes, begins at conception!
