Let's Go Back to the Bible

Attention spans

Attention spans are funny things.  No two are alike.  Everyone has their own; in fact, everyone has a sack full of varied spans that they can pull out at will.  Interestingly, attention spans are something that can be taught and can be learned and something we personally control.  On the other hand, they often bear considerable blame for one’s lack of focus or lack of participation.

The tricky thing for Christians is to learn to train and manage our attention spans.  Some can talk on the phone for hours, but struggle to talk to God in a prayer for minutes.  Some can curl up in a chair and enjoy hundreds of pages in a novel, but struggle to read a few chapters in their Bibles.  Some can sit on the edge of their seat and be captivated by a movie or sporting event, but struggle with staying engrossed during Bible class and worship on Sunday mornings.

We give our attention, our undivided and loyal attention, to those things that are most important and most enjoyable to us.  How is that reflected in your Christian life and responsibilities?
