Let's Go Back to the Bible

Are you an empty pitcher?

When Gideon took his valiant army of 300 up against the 135,000+ Midianite army, “he put a trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers” (Judges 7:16).  These were their “weapons” to use in battle!  Weapons?  What good is an empty pitcher in battle? What good is a torch inside a pitcher? When you read the story in Judges 7, the Israelites broke the pitchers and held the torches up…which lead to the defeat of the Midianites.

Think about this in relationship to 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 – “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.”

We have been given the light of the gospel of Christ (in our “jars of clay”).  The gospel is the torch that can lead to victory.  What do I need to do to let His light/gospel shine forth?
