“I deserve to be happy.” “It’s not fair for me to be stuck in this marriage.” “I can’t believe God would punish me and want me to be single for the rest of my life.” People have all sorts of different views of marriage and the “rights” that they feel they have regarding their 
marriage. What an interesting thought, then, to consider that your marriage doesn’t belong to you! Nope, it doesn’t belong to your spouse, either! Your marriage belongs to God!
First of all, reflect upon the fact that you do not belong to you. Paul states it simply, “…you are not your own” (1 Cor. 6:19). Now, add to that the fact that your spouse does not belong to himself or herself, either. So, in marriage, you have two people who both belong to God. Those two people, who both belong to God, were joined together by God (Matt. 19:4-6). Therefore, the God of heaven, to Whom you belong, is actually the One who owns your marriage!
