Let's Go Back to the Bible

You can know you’re not condemned

One of the greatest, most comforting, most reassuring, most empowering verses in all of the New Testament is Romans 8:1. After establishing that those seeking to be justified by the law were in fact condemned by the law, Paul assures New Testament Christians, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

If you are “in Christ”—(1) having been “baptized into Christ” (6:3) and (2) “raised” to faithfully “walk” according to the Spirit “in newness of life” (6:4)—there is NO condemnation to you! This is NOT teaching “once saved, always saved,” but it IS teaching KNOWING that you ARE saved and that you HAVE eternal life IF you are IN Christ. Are you in Christ?

What great confidence and peace that ought to give to us! No wonder, in the verse right before this one, Paul said, “I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord” (7:25)!
