Let's Go Back to the Bible

Who knows? Well, God does!

In that great story about the providence of God in the book of Esther, Mordecai was persuading Esther to go before the king on behalf of her people, the Jews.  Mordecai said to his cousin, the queen, “Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Est. 4:14).  Esther was in a unique position of having some influence with the king.  Mordecai’s point was that God may have put Esther in that position for the very purpose of saving her people.  But, as is the nature with providence, he had to say, “who knows whether…?”  He did not know for sure.  Esther did not know for sure.  But, God did!  And, Mordecai wanted Esther to use this unique position and unique opportunity, not for selfish purposes, but for God and His purposes.

Look at where you are today.  Look at the people you know.  Look at the influence you have on others (no matter how small or insignificant you think that influence might be).  Who knows whether God has put you where you are right now to be used for Him and His purposes?  Well, you don’t know and I don’t know.  So, we’d better use every opportunity we have for Him!
