Let's Go Back to the Bible

Where would we be if the Lord was not on our side?

Think about these words.  David wrote in the long ago, “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side…” (Psa. 124).  Think about how you would or could finish that sentence in your own life—“If it had not been the Lord who was on my side…”  David makes that statement twice (“If it had not been the Lord who was on our side…”) in the first two verses, then he completes his thought in verse 4—“Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have swept over our soul; then the swollen waters would have swept over our soul.”  If it had not been the Lord who was on our side…terrible things would have happened.

In your life, have there been those times when you could have or should have said, “Thank God that it was the Lord who was on my side”?  David finished the psalm with this praise, “Blessed be the Lord…Our help is in the name of the Lord” (124:6, 8).

Is the Lord on your side?  If so, finish this sentence:  “If God be for us…”
