Let's Go Back to the Bible

“What shall I render to the Lord?”

The psalmist asks a very poignant question in Psalm 116:12 – “What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me?” There are two thoughts in that question: (1) think about all of God’s benefits toward me, (2) what shall I give to the Lord in return?

Read through Psalm 116, for starters, and you’ll find numerous (but not nearly all) benefits of the Lord toward His people:  “He has heard my voice…He has inclined His ear to me…Gracious is the Lord, and righteous…Our God is merciful…The Lord preserves the simple…He saved me…The Lord has dealt bountifully with you…”

Also in this psalm are numerous (but not nearly all) responses I must render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me:  “I love the Lord…I will call upon Him as long as I live…I will walk before the Lord…I believed, therefore I spoke… I will pay my vows to the Lord…I am Your servant…I will offer You the sacrifice of thanksgiving…I will pay my vows to the Lord.”  Pretty rich!
