Let's Go Back to the Bible

Unwritten letter of the prodigal’s father

The Bible does not indicate that the father of “The Prodigal Son” in Luke 15 ever wrote a letter to his son, while he was off in the far country, but if he had, perhaps it might have been like this:

“My dearest son, I miss you so much!  While I could wish that all is well with you, I know that if all was well, you would never come home.  So, I actually hope that, in your journey through that distant land, you will be struck overwhelmingly and convincingly with the horrible, destructive and divisive nature of your actions.  Not because I want some terrible thing to happen to you, but instead, because I want you to get the direction of your life straightened out and come home.  I love you so much!  I long for your return every day!  Please know that my home, my arms and my heart are opened to you and eagerly yearn to run and embrace you.  My beloved son, please come home!  Signed: Your loving and merciful father.”

Such a letter was never written, but knowing the story, it is not hard to believe this expresses the heart of the father.  Now, do you know someone who is wayward, no longer following after their Father in heaven?  Do you think God might write such a letter to them (using you)?
