Let's Go Back to the Bible

The shameful works of darkness!

How close can we, as Christians, get to works of darkness?  How close can (or should) our children get to works of darkness?  How close can we get before the force of gravity begins to pull us into its evil forces?  Read the first half of Ephesians 5 carefully.

The works of darkness “are not fitting” for those who are imitating God (5:1-4), therefore Christians are urged, “let it not even be named among you” (5:3), for such persons have no “inheritance in the kingdom of Christ” (5:5).  “Do not be partakers with them” (5:7).  “Walk as children of light…finding out what is acceptable to the Lord” (5:8-10).  Now, look at verses 11-12, where God says, “Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness,” and even explains, “For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.”

Let it not be named among you.  Don’t partake.  Don’t have fellowship.  Don’t carry on a conversation about those evil works.  As an imitator of God, I must abstain completely!
