Let's Go Back to the Bible

Having “little faith” is equal to having…

Having “a little faith” has sometimes been believed to be acceptable, for having “a little faith” is better than having “no faith.”  Right?  While the acceptability of having “a little faith” has sometimes been based on Jesus’ statement to His apostles about having “faith as a mustard seed” (Matt. 17:20), such should not be used to justify remaining in a state of “little faith.”  Consider Jesus’ statement to the disciples in the boat in the midst of a great tempest.

When Jesus’ disciples awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us!  We are perishing!” (Matt. 8:25), the Lord’s reply is significant.  In Matthew’s account, Jesus said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” (8:26).  But notice how Mark records the Savior’s words – “”Why are you so fearful?  How is it that you have no faith?” (4:40).  Luke’s account has Jesus’ words as, “Where is your faith” (8:25).  Having “little faith” was the same as having “no faith” or “missing faith.”

How much faith do you have?  Like the apostles, let us say, “Increase our faith” (Lk. 17:5)!
