Let's Go Back to the Bible

The grass is always greener… or is it?

Why is it that the grass always seems greener on the other side? Other couples seem to be happier. Other husbands/wives seem to have it better. Other kids have nicer parents. Other coworkers have it easier. Other church members don’t have it as hard. Other congregations are happier and seem more blessed. Other people’s lives just look so much better.

Why doesn’t “our grass” look that green? Because  we live on our grass. We walk on our grass. We know the ins, the outs, the tops and the bottoms of our grass. We’re familiar with every inch of our grass, and so it may have become “stale” or “dull” to us. But, here’s a reality-check for you. Did you know that people living on other grasses (that look so green to you) look at your grass and think it’s so much greener and more appealing than their own grass? You know why? They know the problems with their grass, but they think yours looks problem free. (Little do they know! Right?) One could define “contentment” as: “seeing the real greenness of your own grass and not being fooled by the fake greenness of somebody else’s”!
