Let's Go Back to the Bible

Respect for others – it should be fundamental!

I saw a picture today of one of the Wall Street protestors standing with his nose in the face of a Police Officer, in what appeared to be a scornful defiance of the Officer’s position of authority.  I read an article about an elementary school student sitting on the floor and sticking his fingers in his ears when the teacher told him to pick up his things.  Two examples that I am confident could be multiplied over by thousands if I asked for your own observations.

What’s happening in our society?  Why does it appear that the moral fibers of our society are no longer unraveling (as we’ve been saying for years), but that the fibers have seemingly dissolved altogether?  Numerous strong and viable reasons could be offered, but let me just give one (not the main one, but just one reason).  We live in a culture that has no respect for others.  (Who needs to respect others when I’m all that matters?).  Our culture has no respect for authority—parents, teachers, law enforcement or even God! (Who needs authority when I know what’s best for me?) We would go a long way today if we’d learn to respect others!  Jesus did!
