What an amazing story of the thirty-three miners in Chile being rescued after sixty-nine days of being trapped nearly one-half mile underground! The events at this mine captured the hearts and attention of people from around the globe. It is absolutely astounding that these men, who in normal circumstances a few years ago would have been left for dead, were “brought back to life” and given “a second chance” (words that many have been using on television).
Is this not analogous to the salvation of man from sin? We were trapped by the devil (cf. Heb. 2:14-15) in a deep pit of sin (cf. 2 Pet. 2:19-20). But, we were not left for dead, although we could have been (cf. Eph. 2:1-6), but were raised by the power of God to a new life (Rom. 6:4). “Even when we were dead in trespasses, [God] made us alive together with Christ” (Eph. 2:5). He brought us back to life! He rescued us! He gave us a second chance at life…life eternal!
Being rescued: there’s no one who does it better than God! – DS
