Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Am I slow?”

The word “slow” is found only 15 times in the New King James Version. That’s not very many times for a word to appear in the Bible. Six times it is used of God, who is “slow to anger” (Neh. 9:17; Psa. 103:8; 145:8; Joel 2:13; Jon. 4:2; Nah. 1:3). And, six times it is used in a heavenly appeal to us to also be “slow.” Please consider each of these carefully.

“He who is slow to wrath has great understanding” (Prov. 14:29). “He who is slow to anger allays contention” (15:18). “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty” (16:32). “The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression” (19:11). “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” (Jas. 1:19).

Would you please read these again and ask yourself, “Am I slow?” If I am “quick” to react and “fast” to anger, then I am NOT like God! May God help each of us to grab control of our “accelerator” and our “spark plugs,” AND BE SLOW to anger as God is with us!
