How many times have you heard it – “Patience is a virtue”? (Probably so many times that you might have wanted to smack the person who last said it to you. Ah! Maybe that’s why they were extolling patience.) Patience is a hardy virtue, which entails constant endurance.
Patience is a command from God. “We exhort you, brethren…be patient with all” (1 Th. 5:14).
Patience is a quality to be chased. “O man of God…pursue…patience” (1 Tim. 6:11).
Patience is a requirement of “a servant of the Lord,” who “must be…patient” (2 Tim. 2:24).
Patience is a natural outgrowth of being “kindly affectionate to one another” (Rom. 12:10-12).
Patience is a demonstration of true Christian “love” (1 Cor. 13:4-7).
Patience is a characteristic contrasted with “fretting”—both cannot coexist (Psa. 37:7).
Patience is a necessary virtue in order to “inherit the promises” (Heb. 6:12).
Godly patience is not just passively sitting and waiting. Godly patience pursues the victory to be enjoyed by all when the situation, issue or problem is overcome successfully!
