Like Noah, he was “a preacher of righteousness” (2 Pet. 2:5). Like Abraham, he was a “friend of God” (James 2:23). Like Moses, “he looked to the reward” (Heb. 11:26). Like Caleb, he “wholly followed the Lord” (Josh. 14:14). Like David, he was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). Like Isaiah, he said, “Here am I! Send me” (Isa. 6:8). Like Jesus, he was a “prince of peace” (Isa. 9:6), “gentle and lowly in heart” (Matt. 11:29), always about his “Father’s business” (Luke 2:49), yearning “to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). Like Barnabas, he encouraged “all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose” (Acts 11:23). Like Apollos, he was “an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures” (Acts 18:24). Like Paul, he went “from house to house” declaring “the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:20, 27), with a heart that would “very gladly spend and be spent for souls” (2 Cor. 12:15). Like Onesimus, he was “a faithful and beloved brother” (Col. 4:9). Like Philemon, he was a “beloved friend and fellow laborer” (Phile. 1:1). Like John, he was a “disciple whom Jesus loved” (John 21:7).
