Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

Read in your Bible the account found in Matthew 8:23-27.  Jesus’ disciples followed Him into a boat.  “And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves.  But He was asleep.  Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, ‘Lord, save us!  We are perishing!’”

Do you ever feel like you are in “a great storm”?  Ever feel like you are “covered with the waves” of troubles, doubts, fears, temptations and trials?  Notice three things about Jesus in this story: (1) Jesus was there before the storm even came, was still there during the storm and remained there after the storm; (2) Jesus was the only one who could save those who were perishing; (3) Jesus arose, rebuked the storm and brought about “a great calm” (contrast to “a great storm”).

Jesus promised us, “I am with you always” (Matt. 28:20).  Jesus assured us, “My peace I give to you…that in Me you may have peace” (John 14:27; 16:33).  Oh, what a Savior!
