Let's Go Back to the Bible

My rights as a citizen

Just because you “have a right” as a citizen of this country does not necessarily mean that you have approval from God for such. Regardless of when one has a right to have an abortion in this country does not change God’s view of the sanctity of life and the sinfulness of murder. Just because you have a right to freedom of speech does not change God’s expectations to control our tongues. Having a right to scream in someone’s face or to block someone’s path does not equal having God’s approval. Being free to malign individuals in law enforcement or individuals of a certain ethnicity or class of people does not mean that God sanctions such.

We get so wrapped up, sometimes, in our “rights” as U.S. citizens that we may lose sight of our “responsibilities” as God’s children. My first responsibility is to demonstrate my deepest love to God through obedience to Him and to demonstrate true love for my fellow man by treating them as Jesus would (Matt. 22:37-40). Right in God’s eyes (1 Tim. 6:11) and living as a citizen of heaven (Phil. 3:20-21) is all that matters!
