Let's Go Back to the Bible

More than “for show”

As Christians, we must constantly be aware of our influence and the impact that it has on others.  However, the works and responsibilities for one to become a Christian and to live a faithful Christian life are more than “for show.”

The Bible teaches that one must be baptized to be saved (Mark 16:16).  It is more than “for show.”  The Bible teaches that a Christian must worship God regularly and heartily (John 4:23-24).  It is more than “for show.”  The Bible teaches that a Christian is not to be conformed to this world but to be separate (Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 7:1).  It is more than “for show.”  The Bible teaches that a Christian is to let his light shine before others that they might see his good works (Matt. 5:16).  And someone says, “Aha!  Now that’s for show!”  But it’s not!  If the Christian does it “for show,” then it certainly is.  But done properly, our works take the attention away from the Christian and point to Someone greater – “…that they may…glorify your Father in heaven.” “For show” acts have a limited reward (Matt. 6:2, 5, 16).  “For Him” acts reward eternally!
