Let's Go Back to the Bible

It’s what everybody else is doing

Sometimes we think about the topic of “peer pressure,” and we may categorize that as a problem limited to young people. Such a mis-categorization has led some adult Christians to believe that it cannot impact them. Wrong!

Follow a Christian into the workplace and the business world. Is there any “peer pressure” there? How many Christians use a little foul language at work because “it’s what everybody else is doing”? How many Christians will tell their boss a “white lie” or lead the boss to believe a lie because “it’s what everybody else is doing”? How many Christians will drink a little alcohol when they are out with coworkers or clients because “it’s what everybody else is doing”?

When we begin to look like the world, we abandon any connection with our God! James said, “Friendship with the world is enmity with God” (Jas. 4:4)! Whose “praise” and acceptance do you want—man’s or God’s (John 12:42-43)? You must choose!
