Let's Go Back to the Bible

“I really didn’t mean it”

How many times has someone hurt your feelings and then said, “I really didn’t mean it”?  How many times has someone made a commitment to you, promising they would do something, and then later recanted by saying, “I really didn’t mean it”?  Amazing how flippantly we can use our tongues to make certain statements and then, when caught in a quandary, try to escape.

Aren’t you glad that God doesn’t operate that way!  When God says something, you can count on it.  Peter said, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness…” (2 Peter 3:9).  Paul and John said, “God is faithful” (1 Cor. 1:9; 10:13; 1 John 1:9).  The Psalmist recorded, “The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever” (Psa. 119:160).

When God makes you a promise, He does not do so flippantly, He will not try to escape from it, He will not say, “I really didn’t mean it.”  God means what He says and stands by it!
