Let's Go Back to the Bible

How could they reject Him?

We sometimes wonder how individuals could reject Jesus, right to His face, when they were witnessing supernatural, mind-blowing power demonstrated from His hands. After Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (he’d been dead for four days), the Jews plotted to kill both Jesus and Lazarus (John 10:45-57; 12:9-11). Such amazing unbelief! How could they?

Yet, if people could (and did) reject Jesus in the face of such miraculous evidence, it should not surprise us that they will reject His plain and easily understood teachings in our day. Jesus made this very simple statement, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mark 16:16). It boggles the mind today that people would then claim that being “baptized” is not necessary to “be saved.” How does that follow? It doesn’t!

Just as in Jesus’ day, people see what they want to see, hear what they want to hear, and believe what they want to believe. May we open our eyes, ears and hearts to His truth always, without getting ourselves in the way!
