Let's Go Back to the Bible

How concerned are we REALLY about safe sex?

We have been told that teaching sexual abstinence until marriage is “unrealistic” in our day and it doesn’t work.  Therefore, they say, we must find a way to compromise and to protect our young people.  Hence, we teach our elementary-age children “safe sex” techniques and habits, instead of teaching them to wait until they are married.  But, are we going far enough?

Is it enough to teach them how to have sex and to give them condoms and put the girls on the pill?  Is that really keeping them safe?  Seriously?  If we are going to disregard Scripture for the sake of “safety,” then why are we not administering blood tests and doing background checks on potential partners of our youth?  Why are we not making reservations at safe hotels in safe neighborhoods for our youth, rather than take the chance they’ll end up in a bad location?

Are we really concerned about safety or are we just trying to promote an agenda?  If we are genuinely, honestly and only concerned about the safety of our children (physically, emotionally, spiritually—Ps. 119:117; Pr. 29:25), we will teach them to wait, as our loving God instructs!
