Let's Go Back to the Bible

His eye but also His hand

Of all the temptations that Satan throws at you, which one do you wish you could overcome the most? Think about that. Have you got it in mind? Now, how can you defeat it?

It is truly God’s Word that gives us the strength to overcome every temptation (Psa. 119:11; Matt. 4:4, 7, 10). As we endeavor to write key verses of meditation on our heart that pinpoint these fleshly weaknesses of ours, may I also encourage us to see Jesus there as we are tempted (and even as we give in and sin). What is He doing? At least two things.

First, Jesus has His eye on us. When Peter sinned, “the Lord turned and looked at” him (Luke 22:61). Jesus is watching. You could take that fearfully, but there is another possibility. On another occasion when Peter failed his Lord and called out to Him, the Bible says that “immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him” (Matt. 14:31). When that worst temptation comes, remember two things: Jesus’ watchful eye is there, but so is His helping hand!
