Let's Go Back to the Bible

From whence cometh our comfort?

In times of grief, from whence cometh our comfort?  In times of despair, from whence cometh our comfort?  In times of sadness, from whence cometh our comfort?  Paul wrote that “the God of…comfort” comforts “through the…comfort of the Scriptures” (Rom. 15:4-5).  Paul is not the only one to teach this.

The great treatise exalting God’s Word, found in Psalm 119, makes repeated mention of this power of God’s Word.  Meditate on these thoughts from the seventh division (Zayin) of this great psalm.  “Remember the word…upon which You have caused me to hope… my comfort in my affliction…Your word has given me life…Your judgments of old, O Lord…have comforted …Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage” (119:49-56).

When you’re down and need a “pick-me-up” or a “hold-me-in-Your-arms-for-a-minute” moment, grab your copy of God’s Word and receive comfort from the God of all comfort.
