Let's Go Back to the Bible

Flowers teach us about the enduring nature of the Bible

There are lessons that we can learn from flowers by way of comparison (i.e., the providence of God, the brevity of life, etc.), then there are lessons we can learn from them by way of contrast.

“All flesh is grass, And all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.  The grass withers, the flower fades, Because the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people are grass.  The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever” (Isa. 40:6-8).

There is a comparison in this passage between the fading of a flower’s beauty and the fading of our flesh.  However, there is also the contrast in verse 8 – “the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”  The word of God is “living and powerful” (Heb. 4:12) and always will be!  The word of God “is able to save [our] souls” (James 1:21) and always will be!  The word of God “lives and abides forever” (1 Peter 1:23).  The next time you see a flower wilting, let it remind you, by way of contrast, that the word of God never will!
