Let's Go Back to the Bible

Don’t copy the smallest letter without looking at it first!

So, how can we be certain that the books we have in our Bibles today are accurate copies of the original autographs written by the inspired Bible writers?  The simple answer is—trust God to take care of it! Unfortunately, our curiosity and the skeptics among us want more than that.  This is a huge topic, one that requires much space to address fully.  However, one fact that is extremely reassuring is the meticulous and intricate procedures the scribes employed.

One group of scribes, in a conscious effort to maintain the accuracy of the copies being made, followed this practice: “An authentic copy must be the exemplar, from which the transcriber ought not in the least to deviate.  No word or letter, not even a yod [the smallest Hebrew letter], must be written from memory, the scribe not having looked at the codex before him” (quoted in Neil R. Lightfoot’s How We Got the Bible, recommended reading on this topic).

Remember, all Scripture (even the smallest letter) is inspired and preserved by God!
